Meet the Governors

Welcome to the Governors' section.
My name is Janine Stillwell and I have been the headteacher at Darley Churchtown since September 2014.  I have been a teacher for over twenty years and taught in five other schools.  I have three teenage children who keep me very busy when I'm not at work!  I love being a headteacher and especially the headteacher of such a fantastic school like Churchtown.  In any spare time I can find along the way I love music, theatre and film.  I enjoy family history research and anything to do with the Tudors.  In fact, I am distantly related to Anne Boleyn!

My name is Kate Bussell. I have 3 children, all of whom are at Churchtown, in Reception and years 4 and 6. I work for Derbyshire County Council in Human Resources for four days per week. In my spare time I like to cycle, walk or run. I am currently chair of governors and a member of the RMC. I am Pupil Premium governor and have responsibility for reading. I wanted to join the Governors to ensure that Churchtown children enjoy being at school and to help Churchtown be the best it can be.

My name is Richard Reed. I was appointed a Parent Governor in October 2012 and was then co-opted on to the governing board in October 2016. I am currently Chair of the Resource Management Committee and PE & Sport Premium Governor, as well as Extended Services governor. I have three daughters, 2 of whom currently attend Churchtown. My background is in dentistry having worked in the same practice in Belper for the last 20 years.
I have plenty of experience of planning and managing
budgets, dealing with staffing issues and all the other aspects required
in running a successful business. When not running a taxi service for my three children I play cricket for Bakewell CC and enjoying running and walking. I feel my role as governor is to challenge the school to perform to the best of its abilities and ensure ALL pupils have the opportunity to reach their full potential and "be the best that they can be!"

My name is Sophie Preston and I am the school’s staff governor. I currently teach Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children in Class 1 and I am also the senior teacher in our school.

I am an experienced class teacher and previously I have also been a KS1 assessment moderator for other schools. My specialist subjects are mathematics, music and art.

My name is Darren Lacey and I was elected to be a parent governor in September 2016. I attended this school when I was a child and now 2 of my daughters attend here also.  My experience is within commercial property design and maintenance.  I am the named school governor for health and safety and attendance.

I have worked for the local authority in their Architectural Design Office and further as a Building Surveyor looking after the maintenance and improvement of school buildings. I have valuable experience in project management, building defects diagnosis and building design.

Through my experience within the local authority, I have gained a multitude of contacts and had the pleasure of dealing with a variety of different people. After being a pupil at this school, I am thankful for this opportunity to use the skills I have gained and put back into the school to move it forward, 'to be the best it can be.'

My name is Alison Williams. I am a foundation governor, but was previously a parent governor. I am the named governor for safeguarding. I have 3 children, the  youngest of whom left Churchtown in 2016 and my involvement with the governing body goes back to 2003 when my eldest started in reception.  I have played a very active role in the life of the school, serving on both the finance and the teaching and learning committees as well as being chair of governors for 6 years. As a primary school teacher at another small Church of England Primary school, I am able to bring my skills, knowledge and understanding of the education system when asking challenging questions and holding the school to account. My role as a foundation governor means that I make links with St Helen's church where I attend. I am particularly keen to support the headteacher and the staff as they continue to develop the Christian ethos of Darley Churchtown and our links with the church.

My name is Susan Young and I am a Foundation Governor. I am a representative of St Helen’s Church and help to make sure the school continues to uphold its Christian ethos. I enjoy attending a full assembly each term. I am the Governor responsible for looked after children and a member of the Standards and Learning sub-committee. My aim for the school is to make sure it continues to improve and each child reaches their full potential regardless of any special needs they may have. My hobbies include reading, swimming, baking and watching Manchester City with my husband and two grown up children.

My name is Suzanne Forster. I retired as a primary school head teacher in 2018 and was co-opted as a governor in January 2019. I spend my time volunteering in Derby and have recently spent time in schools in India. I love travelling and especially enjoy exploring new countries and finding out about the lives of the local people. I passionately believe in all children receiving the best possible education and having opportunities to excel in all areas of the curriculum.

James Jennings
My name is Aoife Galletly. I have been a foundation governor since 2018. Both of my children currently attend Churchtown; my son is in year 6 and my daughter is in year 3. Having been a languages teacher, head of MFL and English, and assistant headteacher, I am now the deputy headteacher of a Derbyshire secondary school. I bring my experience of school improvement to the role of governor at Churchtown where it is my responsibility to both support and challenge the school for the benefit of all pupils.
